Austria Geography

The main neighbors of Austria are the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany, the Slovak Republic, Hungary, Slovenia and Italy. The territory of the country is divided into five regions: the Eastern Alps, the Alpine and Carpathian Foothills, the Pannonian Lowlands, the Vienna Basin and the Granite and Gneiss Highlands or Bohemian Massif.

The landscape of the country varies from heavily wooded mountains and hills to the valleys and plains. Practically 75% of Austrian territory is mountainous; the highest peak is the Grossglockner. The principle river of the country is the Danube. The weather is rather changeable but the temperature is comfortable for the tourists in any season of the year.
